SAT(SAM)

Equipment
Scanning Acoustic Tomography or SAM

Equipment for nondestructive analysis of defects inside electronic components using the physical properties of ultrasonic waves with frequencies other than audible frequencies.

Introduction

Scanning acoustic tomography (SAT or SAM) is a non-destructive analysis device that uses the physical properties of ultrasonic waves with frequencies other than audible frequencies to measure the location and size of voids, cracks, and delaminations as well as the size of the internal chip. The ultrasonic wave from the probe penetrates into the material, and if there is a defect in the path of the ultrasonic wave, the ultrasonic wave will be reflected back. That wave is detected and the pulse signal is displayed on the detector's screen. Then, by reading the location and magnitude of the signal displayed on the CRT screen, the size and location of the defect can be evaluated.

Application

Non-destructive Failure Analysis, Reveals hidden defects such as: de-laminations, cracks and voids, Die Size Measurement
